The Best Outdoor Toys For 1 Year Old Boys and Girls
Little Tikes 2-in-1 Snug N’ Secure Swing
If you don’t already have this swing for your little one, it’s really a must-have for your backyard.
It can easily attach to a tree, swing set, or you can even make your own stand from some 2 x 4 boards if you don’t have anywhere else to hang it.
The swing is made specifically for older babies and toddlers between the ages of 8 months and 4 years old.
The weight limit is 50 pounds, so there is a good chance your one year can easily use the swing for a few years.
The t-bar and straps are removable so when your child gets a bit older and doesn’t require them anymore, you can easily take them off and store them away. For younger toddlers and babies, the t-bar and straps help to protect your child and keep them right in place while swinging.
You’ll find that most kids absolutely love being swung over and over in this toy.
Plash Around With A Toddler Water Table
When the weather gets really warm, a water table can be a great way for your child to cool off and have fun without having to worry about them getting into an actual pool.
Plus, a water table takes up a lot less space then a pool does and is great for a backyard porch or patio.
There are several different types of water tables for toddlers. Some of them will just be for playing with water while some other ones are a water and sand play area.
Little Tikes Easy Score Basketball Hoop
Get your toddler scoring some hoops with his awesome toddler basketball hoop set.
The set comes with :
- Adjustable basketball hoop
- Oversized rim for easy scoring
- 3 junior sized basketballs
The hoop adjust from 2 feet up to 4 feet. It is recommended for ages 1 to 5 years old.
This can be a great physical activity toy for a young child and can even help develop motor skills. Plus, even older toddlers and preschoolers will still love to play ball.
The cool thing about this outdoor toy is that you can use it in your backyard or on your back porch but then you can also bring it indoors to play with during the winter months.
Toddler Sized Ball Set
Having some balls to throw around and kick can keep your one year old busy for hours. There are all sorts of fun games that you can play with your child with a simple set of toddler sized balls.
You can play catch back and forth, play soccer, play game of toss the balls into a bucket or just go crazy and throw all the balls around.
Look for ones that are made specifically for small hands as well as are soft enough that your child won’t get hurt with them. The set from Toysmith seen here is a great choice for toddlers.
Fun Ride On Toys For A One Year Old
Although your 1 year old may be a little too young for a typical bicycle, that doesn’t mean that she still can’t enjoy riding around outdoors.
You can stick with something classic like the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe car (they even have a pink and police car themed one) or have her cruise in style with a Step2 Whsipser Ride buggy.
These make great outdoor toys for a one year old because you can also take them other places besides your yard, like the park or around the neighborhood for a walk.
If your child is around 18 months or older you can also try out the Learn To Pedal Trike as it allows your child to learn how a bike works but you can also strap her in and push he as well.
Encourage Imaginative Play With An Outdoor Playhouse
If you have the room in your backyard and you have a bit of money to spend, I really encourage you to buy your toddler a playhouse for the yard.
A playhouse is a great way to help your child get creative and encourage imaginative play all while still enjoying the outdoors.
The nice thing is that nowadays, there are so many great toddler playhouses to choose from and you don’t have to spend hundreds to buy one.
Another nice added benefit of a playhouse is that it gives your child a place to play outdoors that is out of the direct sun. This can come in real handy if your yard tends to not have very much natural shade.
If you are looking for a good quality playhouse that doesn’t cost a fortune, I recommend the Step2 Neat and Tidy Playhouse seen to the side.
It has a cute little kitchen and fireplace inside and the outside features a working Dutch door, doorbell and window shutters.
Outdoor Toddler Slide
A small slide is another great outdoor toy because it gets your child active while also developing balance and motor skills.
Plus, what child doesn’t have fun climbing up and then sliding down over and over?
If you want just a basic outdoor toddler slide check out the Little Tikes First Slide. If you want something a bit more involved check out the Step2 Lookout Treehouse, as it is sort of a small clubhouse area along with a slide.
If you have the money and the space, the Step2 Clubhouse Climber is the ultimate slide and playground for a 1 year old. There are actually two slides along with two clubhouse areas and other fun accessories.
Fisher Price Bubble Mower and Other Bubble Fun
Your toddler will be chasing bubbles everywhere when you buy her the Fisher Price bubble mower. This is a classic outdoor toy (in fact, I even had one when I was a child) that still pleases today.
Kids enjoy the realistic sounds paired with the bubbles flying all over. Both girls and boys will love the fact that they get to mow the lawn with their mower just like dad and mom.
The only thing to keep in mind with the bubble mower toy is that some people do have trouble with the bubbles not blowing out properly or going through the bubble solution really quick. Although most of the reviews are positive, keep in mind that even without all the bubbles, this is still a super fun toy with the realistic noises and look of the mower.
If the mower is not your favorite, there are other bubble toys for 1 year olds as well.
Splash Around In An Inflatable Baby Pool
If you live in area where it gets quite hot you are going to want your little one to have a baby pool to cool off in.
You don’t need a huge pool if you only have the one child who will be using it. In fact, I recommend the Intex Inflatable Fish Baby Pool seen here as it is large enough for a child up to around 3-4 years old but isn’t overwhelming for a one year old.
Plus, it offers a canopy over the top of the pool so your child isn’t in the direct sun while splashing around. You don’t find this in a lot of baby pools.
Once the colder weather comes around again, you can even bring the pool indoors and use it for a ball pit for your toddler.
If you don’t want an actual pool for your 1 year old, then check out the Bonzai Sprinkle and Splash Play Mat.
All you have to do is attach it to your hose and the water squirts out of the small holes in the ring. No need to inflate the mat as it is just the water that makes it plump up.
This may be a nice option if you have a one year and an older toddler as they both can sit and splash around on the mat. Or if you simply don’t want standing water in your backyard in the pool for safety reasons.
