If your kids have grown bored with cooling off in the sprinkler or you simply just want to shake things up and give them some fun water games to play, I’ve got 5 fun activities that make any sprinkler a lot more fun.
These games to play with a sprinkler can work for just one or two kids or you can adjust them for a larger group such as for a party or play date at your home.
And if you don’t have a good water sprinkler for kids at home, then be sure to check out my recommendations as sometimes just changing up the sprinkler can spark some more interest from your kids.
Super Fun Backyard Games To Play With a Water Sprinkler
Freeze tag can be a lot of fun to play, but add in water into the mix and your kids will love it. Parents can be in charge of the water tap and have all the kids run around the sprinkler or pose in certain positions.
Without giving warning, turn the water on and watch to see who can actually freeze in place, no matter how wet they get.
Fill Your Cup
Give each one of your kids a cup of equal size and see who can fill up their cup the fastest. For a little more of a challenge, have a larger bucket for each kid or a team of kids and see which one can fill up the larger bucket using the smaller cups in the sprinkler.
Your kids can have their very own car (bike, scooter) wash right in their own yard. If you really want them to have a fun experience give them a bucket of soap and some sponges and let them wash everything clean.
This is best done on a patio or driveway rather than on the grass as it’s easier to ride bikes or scooters on the cemented area rather than grass or dirt.
If you have a pretty large sprinkler you can make a treasure hunt for your child that takes them all through the different areas of the sprinkler-land. You can choose different water safe toys or accessories to use in the treasure hunt such as sponges, bath toys, inflatable pool toys or balls.
Place all the treasure items around the sprinkler area and see how long it takes your child to pick up the items and place them back in the basket. You can use a large laundry basket as the treasure chest to collect all the items.
Tug Of War
If you have a few kids that you are entertaining, grab a rope or even a jump rope you have lying around and have them divide into teams and play tug of war. Have the sprinkler be right in the middle and see which team can pull the other team over to the middle. With most sprinklers you’ll find that even the winning team gets wet.
These are just some of the fun games to play with a sprinkler as you can always adapt classic games into water play as well. Also, don’t forget when your child becomes tired of the sprinkler you can always pull out any of these water balloon games for kids as well.
You can always add in some more fun with any water activity from these sprinkler games to even a backyard inflatable water slide by adding some silly songs and dancing. Get together a playlist of some great silly children’s songs or the classic songs they know and love and you’ll find that it adds a ton more fun wiggling and dancing.
