If you plan on taking your toddler sledding this winter, you want to make sure that you have the best winter sled for him or her.
Having a good quality sled that is made for a smaller child helps to reduce any problems or injuries that could happen while sledding.
There are actually several different types of sleds that would work well for a toddler. It’s up to you depending on what type you want as well as what your budget may be as well.
Check out the selection for best winter sleds for toddlers.
Lucky Bums Toddler Youth Pull Sled
This is one of my favorite picks for a winter toddler sled because it helps to keep your little one safe while sledding as well as makes it functional for parents.
The sled has a high back with extended sides to allow your child to sit up straight and be comfortable. It also helps to ensure that your young child won’t flip off backwards on the sled since the back goes up higher and offers support.
The sled has some other really nice features that makes this my pick for the best toddler sled.
- Attached safety strap seat belt
- Raised foot support to keep feet on sled and out of snow
- Slip-resistant padding on the seat
- Extended pull rope works great for parents comfortability
The recommended capacity for this sled is no more than 40 pounds so it is recommended for ages 3 and under. although I know lots of 4 year old who could still use this sled as well.
The one drawback on this sled is that it does run quite a bit more money than some other sleds for toddlers. But, Lucky Bums is a quality company and this sled does have really great features that some other sleds don’t have at all. You’ll find that the construction is more heavy duty and will last more than one winter unlike some of the cheaper sleds.
Paricon Toddler Boggan Sled
If the Lucky Bums toddler winter sled above is a bit too expensive for you right now, then consider this cheaper version that is similar in style.
This sled works great for younger toddlers for a “first sled” that allows parents to pull their child through the snow with the attached rope on the front of the sled. With this sled you have the option of pulling younger kids and also letting them slide down on their own down smaller, gentle hills.
The high back and rounded seat helps keep the child in place when sledding. The seat buckle adds even more protection for young ones staying on the sled and also prevents little ones from trying to stand up on the sled as well.
This sled it recommended for ages 18 months to up to 4 years old.
Although the sled is pretty lightweight at only 3 pounds, it is made of a durable plastic that makes it a sturdy ride for young kids.
Lucky Bums Kids Toboggan Sled
This is another really great option for a toddler sled that is safe for younger children.
This sled features a higher back support and sides that are higher than your traditional sled. It even offers a comfy raised seat with plenty of leg area.
There is a pull cord so parents can easily pull their child through the snow and you don’t even need any hills to ride down.
This sled even has brake handles that can be used to help stop the sled when going down hills as well as used to help steer the sled.
I would recommend this sled for older toddlers at least 2 or older as it doesn’t have the safety belt and the back isn’t as high as some other toddler sleds.
The nice thing about this sled is that it can be used as your child gets older as it is recommended up to approximately age 7 or up to 100 pounds in weight.
Pelican Baby/Toddler Sled
Bring it back old style with this adorable, yet quality made sleigh sled for toddlers.
The sled features an elevated seat for the child so that stay dry while sledding. The double slat backrest helps to protect the child from falling out backwards as well as on the sides. This is really nice to have with younger toddlers who may easily fall back when trying to pull them through the snow.
The sled features a rope attached to the front so you can easily use it to pull your child through the snow as well as it can be used on smaller hills so the child can ride down by themself.
This is a very sturdy sled that is almost built more like a mini sleigh for a young child. It has that reminiscent feel of the old wooden sleds and sleighs and will be a ton of fun for your child to play with in the winter this year.
Inflatable Toddler Sled
This is another great winter sled for toddler especially if you want something cheap and inexpensive for just this year.
This sled is completely inflatable so it can be packed away for a trip or deflated so it won’t take up room in your garage or house.
This is designed just for toddlers as it features the high back and side to help keep younger child on the sled. It is recommended for kids ages 1-3 years old.
It also comes with a pull rope for parents. It would not be recommended for large hills but would do just fine being pulled and over gentle, small hills.
It even has a cute seal character design that little kids would love.
When it comes to the best sleds for toddlers, you may also want to consider buying a larger adult size sled and simply riding with your toddler. This is a good idea if you plan on using the sled on slightly larger sledding hills in your city that your child may not be able to ride on by himself.

When it comes to younger toddlers (under 2 years old) I would definitely recommend a sled that has a high back as well as sides to help them from easily falling out. For older toddlers (ages 2-4 years old) you could probably go with more of a traditional sled that is just smaller and fit for their size. Although, there are larger sleds that would work for kids ages 2-6 that also features a raised back and seat as well. It depends on how much money you want to spend on the sled for your child.
